Eric Clapton is reading it on the cover of the album.

It's Beano No.1242 from May 7, 1966. A copy of it is currently at ?35 on eBay with about 4 days bidding left.

Yes I do, but I can't see that it's value should be increased by its Clapton connection. Still, what folk consider as a must have is a very personal thing.

Come on, Ray - if it was a Gerry and the Pacemakers album, or Cilla Black, you'd understand.

Okay, so I'm guessing (and libelling perhaps), but it's a good question. Recently, our very own Nigel Parkinson was responsible for the latest Kaiser Chiefs release cover. Which group/artiste, past or present, would you (everyone) like to see reading your favourite comic on the cover of an album, and would it have you adding a bob or two to your normal maximum ebay bid in order to get either the comic or the album? And if so, how much?

If we're talking Cilla in her pre nose job, pre 'Blind Date', 'Step Inside Love', days maybe but I think Lulu would still get the nod.
I'll have to have a think about this one as there too many weird amalgamations that would appeal simply because of the weirdness of slamming them together eg Janis Joplin reading the Bunty or Jimi Hendrix with a copy of Tiger & Hurricane might be worth shelling out a few extra quid for. Or maybe I'd just like to track down a copy of that Who album where the lads are sitting surrounded by their substantial collection of nursery comics. John Entwhistle apparently being particularly fond of ten minutes with a Bimbo!

For me I would look at getting a comic that was on the LP of the following:

David Bowie reading 2000AD.
Debbie Harry reading Princess (awwww well she is - heck Modern Aquarium would do for me with Debs),
Tom Waites reading Pongo Snodgrass (the similarity is strinking)
Marylin Manson reading Teddy Bear

The less said about Mr Glitter and School Fun the better

Major Tom reading one of the late 60s Valiant Space Specials could have made a decent cover pic for David Bowie's Space Oddity album.

The one that would make my hair stand on end would be Bowie reading the last episode of The Visible Man in 2000AD where the character resigns from the human race.

"Can you hear me Major Tom?"
