As a small complimentary piece to Captain Storm's new blog I just thought a few notes on Fleetway's take on time-travel in the 1960's may be of interest.
First off the block was 'Danny Jones - Time Traveller' who, unusually, featured in two Fleetway titles Tiger (22/2/64-6/2/65) and Hurricane (10/4/65-8/5/65). Danny owed his time travelling abilities to a 200 year old clock that he fished out of the local pond, the clock having been thrown in there by superstitious villagers in the 18th century who feared its makers 'witchy' inventions. The artists on this strip were many and varied but included Sam Fair, Selby Donnison, Mario Capaldi in Tiger and in Hurricane John Vernon, Colin Merrett and Colin Page.

Back-Tracker Jack. Buster (30/10/65-19/2/66)
Laboratory assistant Jack Morton is given the job of controlling the 'delta-powered' Historex device by its inventor Prof Proctor. The Historex, which looks like an instamatic camera, has the power to drag famous figures from the past into the present day. And so disparate personages such as Dick Turpin, Blackbeard, Genghis Khan, Merlin, the Black Prince and even the head of the Spanish Inquisition Torquemada( I bet the Prof and Jack never expected that!) arrive through the time portal. Artwork courtesy of Eric Bradbury.

Kelly's Eye - Doc Diamond's Time Clock. Valiant (24/6/67-18/5/74)
The longest of all Fleetway's time-travel sagas ( maybe too long). Tim Kelly, the owner of the life-preserving Eye of Zoltec, had first met the mad inventor Doc Diamond in Oct 1966 and after an encounter with his own savage alter-ego, conjured up by the Doc, Kelly is then lured into the the Doc's Tardis-like time travelling device for seven years of ages-hopping in the gargoyle-like inventor's compeny.
Most art for the series was by Solano Lopez and his studio but the first episode was the work of John Catchpole.

Robot Archie - The TIme Castle (20/4/68-18/7/70)
Prof Ritchie, the inventor of 'old tinribs', is also the genius behind 'the Castle' a time travelling device that looks for all the world like a rook from a standard Staunton chess set. Adventures in time for Archie and his usual companions ensue very much in the Kelly's Eye 'time-clock' mould.
Artwork throughout by Ted Kearon.

One I forgot to mention the other day
Time 'Tec - Tiger (14/10/67-9/3/68)
This was a nice little strip about a down at heel private detective named Theo Platt who is drawn into the zany world of Prof Hourglass and his time machine (disguised as a delivery van) when he is called in to investigate the case of an old dog who reverts to puppyhood when he strays into the grounds of a creepy old house.
The artist is sadly anonymous.

Thanks again Kashgar, lots of strips seemed to be based on this premise.Actually, one could turn any mundane strip on its head just by including this plot device.Clever,eh?
