Hiya,

Just a note to let you know that the page by page on the Bustercomic site has expanded to 155 editions. Brief overviews of all of those issues now appear with a list of who appeared, and the front cover scans too!

More to come in the next few weeks I'm working on an average of a year's comics per weekend, so slowly but surely we're getting there!

However, Summer's weren't always about Holiday Fun. Between 1975 and 1985 Buster produced a summer puzzle book full of teasers riddles and games. And so as not to leave the other seasons out, in 1988 Buster produced a Winter Special, however this turned out to be just a one off.

Bumping this for no good reason really, just that I got a Buster '78 annual today (curse those damn anomalous paperback formats) and am now more sure than ever that it's the best of the fleetway humour titles by quite some way. I never really thought so at the time, mind you. Although it always still fascinated me - Galaxus, Pete's Pocket Army, Charlie Peace, The Leopard from Lyme Street. Each of those strips always struck me as bloody weird - for different reasons. I love the wording in the final frame of the Galaxus strip in this annual too:

"THEY WERE FREE! BUT NOT TO REST! ONCE AGAIN GALAXUS AND HIS FRIENDS MOVED ON ...EVER ONWARDS, HUNTED AND MISUNDERSTOOD."

Hah! What kind of freedom is that?? Ace. Existential doom laden harbinger of poignancy, Galaxus lumbers onwards ever onwards - half king kong, half chicken.

Oh and damn, the art in Marney the Fox is brilliant!!

This serious stuff sandwiched between such genuinely funny treats as Face Ache and Nelly Phant makes for a brilliant comic. If I could go back in time I'd definitely get a subscription to Buster. Gotta get more annuals now - pretty scarce though, it seems. If anyone's selling any comics or annuals PM me please.

Nice to see my thread bumped.....all adds to the number of visits I'm sure.

I've been doing a lot of work lately getting the overviews of comics from 65-71 online and although i've done little reading of them, it's amazing how a comic can go from a serious gripping drama to a humour strip quite so easily....Particularly in the 70s these strips seemed to complement each other nicely and there's some real strong moments in the serials that make you want to read on next week.

In fairness, it's probably one of the things that saved the comic when it disappeared due to industrial action - particularly in the big gap from November 1970 to February 1971.
