What Comics Are Out There Now?

Post by SID »

I wonder what comics (not including pre-school) are out on the shelves these days?

The ones I know of are:

2000AD
Judge Dredd Megazine
The Dandy Xtreme
The Beano
Beanomax
Doctor Who Magazine
Toxic
Commando
Viz
Spaceship Away

Have I missed any?

Well, you've missed Marvel Heroes, the entire Panini/Marvel UK reprint line and Titan's DC reprint line, for a start, as well as Doctor Who Adventures, Classics From the Comics, Star Trek and a dozen or so titles aimed at the younger age groups.

Anyway, Crikey's not a comic, it's a magazine about comics!

You also missed Fun Size Beano and Fun Size Dandy. There's also a whole bunch of licenced titles, such as the Power Rangers one. Jetix would've counted too, but I don't know if it's successor Nitro carries comic strips or not. Scooby Doo is another licenced comic. There's also The Simpsons Comics, and it's sister title Futurama Comics.

Doesn't Torchwood Magazine have a comic strip, too? or has the mag bitten the dust? I haven't seen it in awhile...

It did indeed, and there's a brand new Mike Higgs 'Cloak' strip lined up for the next one. :)

I'm buying the G.I Joe, it's very good well worth buying, you only have to pay £2.25p a month. Issue 5 out now.

If you check the Down the Tubes website they have a section devoted to all the current comic titles available from each publisher.

There's also Wasted, a new full colour UK adult humour comic that's reached issue 2 so far. (Athough I think they were depending on Borders too.)

Incidentally, I think Spaceship Away is only available from comic book specialist stores, not newsagents, so if such indie titles are to be included as well then there are many more to be added to the list.

From the list it turns out that I'm a 16 percenter ie I take approx 16% of these titles regularly. What percentages do others regularly take?
