What copy of Lion Annual 1972 should I retain?

Post by skidbum1 »

Hello all, my middle class dilemma this week is that I bought an unclipped copy of Lion Annual 1972 to replace my clipped copy. However the unclipped copy has a slightly looser spine and has slight tanning on the edge of the pages. The clipped copy however is lovely for a 1972 annual - it is tight, clean and near white edges. Which copy would you retain and which one would you pass on via Ebay? If this is the extent of the problems in my life then I'm not doing too bad!

Personally i'd keep the better-bound one. It'll look nicer on the shelf and you won't need to be so careful when you take it down for a read/refer to.

Being a bit of a restorer I'd photocopy the unclipped page and tuck it into the front of the clipped copy. I would suggest replacing the clipped portion with the copy but you might do a bad job and regret it. (Scotch Magic Tape is almost invisible once stuck down. I once got a Man From UNCLE annual but it had a page missing, I later got a complete copy and photocopied the relevant page and placed it inside the first copy - with a thin swipe of pritstick. It was a text page but did have one colour but choosing the right felt tip I recoloured it too! personally clipped copies don't bother me that much and if it looks nicer keep that one.

If it was a genuine rarity like Action Comics no.1 (or even Dandy no.1) the clipped price would seriously reduce its value, but as Annuals from that period still go for about a pound each I must say that it wouldn't worry me at all! What really matters is the version you'd prefer to see on your own bookshelf!
