On his blog Lew mentioned a Radio Fun comic strip featuring Jimmy Jewell and Ben Warriss that had smoking as its central theme and this immediately
brought to mind a comic strip from the Dandy that throughout its 'healthy' four year run had smoking as its central focus, namely 'Merry Marvo and his Magic Cigar' drawn by Allan Morley which featured in the Dandy from No225(17/10/42) to No329(12/10/46) as well as in 8 consecutive editions of the annual Dandy Monster Comic 1943-1950.
As with all of Allan Morley's two-line strips the scripting was basic and centred around elegantly dressed, stage magician Marvo who possessed a 'magic cigar' with which he could blow smoke rings that had amazing effects on people and items that they touched. (Whether these effects were real or the result of the possibly 'trippy' ingredients of the cigar itself was never explored).

But not the same accuracy or precision as Kashgar. This blogger refers to Merry Marvo as Merry Mario. And it's not as if he had anything much more to think about. Fortunately, there are people out there who do care. Needless to say, I'm not yet minded to bookmark jonnie12's blog.Digifiend wrote:Looks like somebody else (jsb97 aka jonnie12) had the same thought.

I've posted a message with the correction. I'd posted that link because it had an example of the strip.
