The 1940 Beano book over on ebay seems to be generating a lot of interest!

I really wish I could afford that!

Does anybody here have a copy? Has anybody got any scans of strips that appeared inside it, the example on ebay has some strips I've never heard of before!

We created a facsimile copy of the annual a few years ago. Using an original copy of the annual we cleaned up all of the pages. This was a limited edition of 2,000, selling at £20 per copy (trading on e-bay at £80 a piece within a few days).

Unfortunately I am something of a Luddite I do not know how to post images on this message board, but I am sure somebody associated with this board can let you have sight of the 'cleaned up' pages.

If all else fails send me a PM and can oblige.

I have a copy of the facsimile version.
It's missing the "this books belongs to page".
I would upload some scans but my copy is about 100 miles away from where I currently am.
When I got it I hoped they would release facsimile versions of all the old Beano annuals but unfortunately this wasn't the case.
Can anyone identify who the caveman on this page is? I've read the whole book and he doesn't appear anywhere in it. The picture is the one from the ebay page.



Is there anyway I can shrink this image I googled examples of how to do it in BBCode with [img width=100 height = 200] and [img 100x200] but they don't seem to work here.

Only Beano caveman that comes to mind is Alf Wit, but he didn't appear until 1947 and didn't have a beard.

I think it might be Boney the Brave. According to the History of the Beano he appeared in the comic in 1939. But I have no idea what the character looked like and he could be a caveman, he could be a native American, he could be a talking skeleton, he could be anything. I have no idea and the name doesn't really give it away.

If you post your images using tinypic it has a "message boards" option which makes the image smaller.

posting images can be tricky to learn for a beginner----it certainly was for me. It's worth persevering with, though!

The caveman could be a cartooned up version of Morgyn the Mighty?

It's not Morgyn. He was clean shaven. Also, Morgyn's Beano run was already over. This book was published about 14 months after the Beano launched.

The cave man on the title page is Boney The Brave (He Lives In A Cave) drawn by Roland Davies another of Davies's characters that appears on the front cover & title page is Contrary Mary isn't in the book neither is Allan Morley's Big Fat Joe it's on the cover but absent in the book
