Unknown Comic Strip Identification

Does anyone recall a brief set of comic strips where readers were asked to design/invent new comic strip characters and send in a drawing, on the promise that a one page comic strip would be published in the comic with that character?
My older brother drew and sent in two characters that were boxing gloves called Lefty and Righty, and sure enough a one page strip was drawn by one of the comic artists using those characters. I seem to remember it may have been in the Whizzer & Chips, but can't be sure. If anyone has a copy, I would love a photocopy to give to my brother who is now pushing 60.
This must have been approximately 40 years ago.
Here's Hoping

In 1974, early issues of Whoopee! had a feature titled Kid Cartoonist, but readers had to not just invent their own comic character but draw a story, too, so it wasn't drawn by one of the comic artists, but the young reader. That's the only thing I can think of from the era where a full page comic *strip* was featured using a reader's creation, rather than a single image 'poster' type feature, like the same comic's Wanted posters.

Could be the one. Now that you mention this, I seem to remember he did do a whole comic strip, and he was a bit peeved that they tweeked the storyline. 1974 would certainly be at the right time.

ComicBat:
Your story sounds slightly familar, and I'll have a look through my files---even if I can't find your brother' story, I'll at least put up a similar Kid Cartoonist story from the same period of Whoopee!

Hiya ComicBat:
I am still looking through my WHOOPEE! files and I'm about halfway through: still no sign of your brother's strip yet, alas, but check back again on this thread soon, hopefully I may have it....I sure hope so!
In the meantime, here's the very memorable KID CARTOONIST strip from the debut issue-------a very good series I found this, great charm and creativity from budding cartoonists:

Oops!
I've only just realized, the debut Kid Cartoonist strip is featured in Mc Scottys' handy link above----so meanwhile, here's another less familiar edition, from issue 19:
Mind you, I reckon that 3 quid [for winning this competition] was a decent sum in 1974!
