I've used this site to find out from where and when stories from the old IPC Disney weeklies originally appeared. It's very thorough!

We really need a section devoted to links for comic sites or cover sites like the ones in this topic as i had no idea about any of them until yesterday.

Inducks includes the Australian Disney comics, so I've found it very useful. Looking at their listings, Gyro Gearloose was popular in Latin America, and there seems to be a load of G.G. stories unpublished in English. I'm still trying to find the chicken-hatches-a-doorknob Gearloose story in the Australian comics, but I'm not sure of the strip's title.

One of the things about copyright characters as in Disney for instance is the uniformity achieved when those characters are produced by various artists.I remember in the hosiery trade for instance when licence was given to produce cartoon characters on fabrics, folders were received from the licensing agents with all the size specifications and the character colouring .When the finished product was produced it had to be sent to the agent for approval.
A number of Uk comic characters seem to change drastically from the original version when produced by different artists,Billy Bunter being one example and also many Beano characters.One UK exception being Rupert which has remained true to the original.

It's Carl Barks' "Krankenstein Gyro," and it's definitely been in Australia!
