Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

It's scenario time again.

I did something like this back in 2008 and had great fun (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5904&p=76462#p76462).

It is the year when you have just discovered comics and have just started on the road to becoming a life long comic fan. However, before you know it, the Doctor's TARDIS worps into your life and takes you & your family/friends off on a fantastic adventure.

Afterwards she/he takes you home and says goodbye only for you to realise that instead of taking you back to your own time, you are left in 2025.

Luckily, UNIT comes to you & your family/friends' aid and, although they cannot send you back, they do help you to settle in and adjust to "modern life".

So you are back in living some sort of normal life where you are going to school/work (depending on your age), etc...

Of course, you start thinking about reading comics again but the ones you had originally are most likely no longer around.

Bearing in mind what age you would have been when you first got interested in comics, what comics in 2025 would you like? If any at all?

And, assuming you do and are a kid, how would the comics progress as your tastes got older (using current comics as your guide)?

I hope you enjoy it.

PS Which Doctor would it be that would have whisked you away on your fantastic adventure?

Here's my go:

I was only a small kid when I discovered comics in 1970.

If I had stayed in that time, I would have had:

Bobo Bunny
The Dandy
The Beano

That would have led onto 2000 AD and Starlord, etc..., in the late 70s.

Now in 2025, two of the comics would be gone and Beano looking different (but then they all would be).

I also think with the influence of the modern media, I would have been drawn to superheroes e.g. Marvel and DC.

Therefore, I think the comics I would go for are:

Beano (as I would still recognise some of the characters)
Spider-Man Magazine (Panini)
The Phoenix

From there, I would most likely move onto Panini's The Amazing Spider-Man and Deadpool & Wolverine and finally onto 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine.

My Doctor would be the Third Doctor aka Jon Pertwee.

For me, I'm glad the Doctor never popped in or I would have missed out on a load of great comics.

For me it would have been early seventies.
So Look-in, Old Gerry Anderson Annuals from jumble sales,
Spiderman and various other Marvel weeklies.
TV Comic.
Batman annuals/Superman annuals/Star Trek annuals/Dr Who annuals.
Therefore ......
In 2025 I think I would have mainly latched on to Panini stuff.
Anything doing Marvel/DC.
It would have to be Spiderman/Avengers/Hulk etc as I hadn't heard of The XMen at that stage and StarWars hadn't been released.
I also quite liked The Dandy/Beano etc but don't think the modern beano would have appealed to me even at that age.
My Dr at the time would also have been Jon Pertwee.

Oh dear if I was transported to only buy comics from 2025 I would be in trouble, the only British comic I would read would be commando and I only like the non ww1/2 stories. As for American comics I find it very hard to get into the story arcs I have practically stopped buying them I just buy the odd random issue which may have a story which interests me. Its probably my age I was born mid 50s so I believe I lived in the golden age of comics the 1960s, so many issues to choose from each week. It was just fun choosing what comics to buy each week . My favourite doctor was Jon pertwee I can still remember seeing the very first showing of Dr who on a very small B/W tv . I’m now mostly buying graphic novels even bigger comics to store which she who must be obeyed moans about.

I like games.

Like you and Jim, Sid, I discovered comics in the early 1970s.

My first comics back then would have been Beano, Dandy and Sparky.

Now if that 'me' found himself in 2025 then I don't think I would have found comics interesting. Maybe Beano but aren't the kids so well behaved compared to the 1970s? Apart from that, there's nothing else. As a kid I preferred DC to Marvel but it's all Marvel these days.

If I did get Beano, am not sure how that would progress to Commando and today's Battle Action.

No. The only plus side to this scenario is that I wouldn't have grown up and met my ex.

Captain, I feel the same way about the 70s. There were comics galore in your local WHSmith (soon to be TG Jones) and newsagents. And it seemed there was always a comic being launched. Ah the good ol' days. In fact, a part of me wishes that I was born a decade earlier so I could have fully enjoyed the comics of the 60s but then again, I'm not sure I would want to wish 10 years of my life away. Isslord, sorry to hear you wouldn't be interested in the modern comics. TBH, if I alter my scenario so this event happened before I started reading comics, I am not sure I would be either. Now if I was a few years older, I would have gotten into Panini's older range of comics.

PS Captain, I always find a Mancave keeps the other half happy (somewhere to store my comic purchases).

There may be a resurgence for the older reader but for kids, there's not a lot there unless you are into superheroes or some other commercial rubbish. Yeah, there's Beano but hardly the choice when in the 70s there was Beano, Dandy, Sparky, Beezer, Topper, Whizzer and Chips, Buster and the list goes on... to choose from.

True, Isslord but these are different times and kids of today have other interests which has, for most, pushed comics into the background.

Beano is different from when I got it but I chalk it up to its versatility for survival by adapting its style for the modern audience.

Now, I loved The Beano in the 70s and before anyone points out that this may be an age thing (LOL), my Wife bought me a Modern Dandy Annual a couple of years ago and I absolutely loved it !!!

When I was a kid a newsagents was a treasure trove stuffed with Warlord, Bullet, Action etc.

Jim, you are not going to get an argument from me but I'm glad that modern kids still like it.

And The Dandy Book was the first ever comic related item I started collecting as a kid (in 1971) and I still do today. In fact, it's my tradition to buy and read it on Christmas Eve and I still enjoy it.
