Snail-Man Marvel UK Spider-Man Comic Art
Just bought my first page of signed (2x) Lew Stringer "Snail-Man" art that appeared the Marvel UK Spide-Man comic No.648 1985. It measures around 310mm x 232mm , so around A4 in size. Hilarious.

Well, hello there!

I think this was among the last issues of Marvel UKs' Spiderman title as it ended with the rather satanic number 666.
The Spiderman title at this stage had stopped reprinting the USA mag as it was felt that readership age was much younger and in America they had just introduced the black costume and Venom.
Therefore the UK comic started running their own stories which were aimed at a younger audience.
Strangely, when Spiderman folded he was picked up to costar with Zoids in their new comic and we then had a proper continuation of the strip which introduced the black costume to the UK.
Re: Snail-Man Marvel UK Spider-Man Comic Art
Also, as a side note, Star Wars Weekly ended in the same Zoids comic as after being retitled, made monthly, re-numbered and almost ending on it's own...BLOODY MARVEL UK had to say that Return of The Jedi weekly continues in the Spiderman and Zoids comic when in reality they published one story from an annual over a few comics and it then vanished.

Thanks jim224. Yeah, love this page. My first Spider-Man comic too. Constantly surprised at the amount of work Lew Stringer has done. Sadly never collected the Marvel Spider-Man comic back in the day. Yeah, fond memories jim244. I did get the odd Star wars Marvel comics bought for me by my parents in the early eighties, but most of my comics , Dandy, Topper , Beano etc were obtained from jumble sales or at school summer fates when I had pocket money.jim244 wrote: 24 May 2025, 07:54I went in and out of it, got it for a year then came back a couple of years later etc.Into The Abyss wrote: 23 May 2025, 16:24Thanks jim224. Also, although not comic related. Did you ever ask a kid get those Star Wars transfer cards where you rubbed a coin on a plastic sheet with images of Darth Vader and Wookies onto a scenic background. One was a tree similar to the one in Avatar. I did. Loved those. Always used to get them when Ill along with a bottle of Lucozade and a bunch of grapes and Curly Wurly lol .

Had one or two. Not many. Money was tight. Had two sisters and brother. I can still remember seeing all the figures in my local John Menzies store. My friend had loads of them. Millennium Falcon ect... Had the Darth Vader mask & suit which I wrecked. That's the nearest I came to a collection. Had also a Doctor Who Palitoy Tardis, Red & Black Dalek with a Cyberman for Xmas 1977 as all the Tom Baker Doctor Who and Romana dolls were sold out. Wrecked the Tardis also on Christmas morning after taking is apart trying to see where the Cyberman went lol.jim244 wrote: 28 May 2025, 04:41Did you ever collect the original Kenner Star Wars figures ???Into The Abyss wrote: 25 May 2025, 14:40That brings back memories jim244.jim244 wrote: 25 May 2025, 06:26

Absolutely correct about Timestress Romana played by Lala Ward, who also was Tom Baker's fiery ex-wife. She was later replaced by Mary Tamm for the story "Key to Time". And, Leela, Louise Jameson, was the leather clad knife welding warrior star of the Omega Factor with the late great James Hazeldine of London's Burning and Choccy fame.

In reality Mary Tamm played Romana for one series and was replaced by Lalla Ward who did indeed later marry Tom Baker.

So long as I close I'm happy. Some are fonts of knowledge. I'm a Stork margarine tub. Yeah, her tenure was very brief in Doctors who. Wasn't Mary Tamm also in the 1976, Likely Lads film, alongside with Bridget Forsyth , James Bolam & Rodney Bewes? Sure she was? Think she played James Bolam's girlfriend. I recall a some scene where a caravan was involved? Got the movie poster to that film. Two in fact. I'm a greedy sod me.jim244 wrote: 01 Jun 2025, 23:39You are so CLOSE to the truth Into the Abyss....Into The Abyss wrote: 01 Jun 2025, 20:04Be pedantic Jim244. Can you recall that limited edition, Key To Time box set, that was released in a plastic slipcase. At one point it went for eye watering prices on ebay. I bought one only for the ruddy BBC to re-release the box set for about £29.99. Aaarrgggh!!

OMG yes !!!! The Key to Time set was massively expensive and then reissued with exact same content for 30 notes and currently £21 I believe!!
I refused to pay for it as thought price would come down or be re-issued so got it for £26 a few years back.
BTW:The caravan scene was excellent
