Mike Stirling
Mike Stirling the Beano Director of Mischief was on Tony Livesey's Radio 5 Live show last night chatting about the funniest school in Britain. Tony asked if he would be able to come back for a longer interview on one of his Monday night shows. The night was full of tributes to Brian Wilson so listeners comments about comics went by the wayside.

To be fair Steve....stevezodiac wrote: 12 Jun 2025, 09:21 Mike Stirling the Beano Director of Mischief was on Tony Livesey's Radio 5 Live show last night chatting about the funniest school in Britain. As much as I love comics, I love music also....
Brian Wilson (in my opinion) was .......GOD.
So I believe slightly more important than this michael chap that currently is the creative director for Beano studios, a comic that I loved until it became crass.
The Dandy never sank to that level.
JUST MY VIEWS.
Feel free to disagree with me.

Yes I sent a WhatsApp message to the show - they said a Rolling Stone magazine poll placed the Beach Boys 12th in the world's greatest bands, I complained they should be second behind the Beatles. I have no time for the modern Beano either but just wanted to share for any younger forum members who appreciate it. If the Beano went back to the much warmer newsprint paper I might like it. Glossy paper isn't meant for comics. And don't get me started on American comics which have no outside borders or individual panels any more and every artist had the same style.

Re: Mike Stirling
I forgot to mention Tony Interviewed the 90 year old Carol Kaye who played bass guitar on some Beach Boys albums. Her wiki entry is amazing. Here's a snatch:
Carol Kaye (née Smith;[1] born March 24, 1935)[2] is an American musician. She is one of the most prolific recorded bass guitarists in rock and pop music, playing on an estimated 10,000 recordings in a career spanning over 65 years.
Active from 1949 to present day.
He also interviewed Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive who gigged with the Beach Boys.

The Beach Boys ARE the 2nd best band ever, behind only The Beatles.
Also: Completely agree with you about modern USA comics (I love these up until the mid 90s,then everything started to go wrong).
Glossy paper is another EXCELLENT POINT as 2000AD also lost it big time when the newspaper type style changed.
Re: Mike Stirling
One of the tributes to Brian was from Randy Bachman and I didn't get the connection so thanks for answering this for me.stevezodiac wrote: 13 Jun 2025, 17:29 I forgot to mention Tony Interviewed the 90 year old Carol Kaye who played bass guitar on some Beach Boys albums. I will indeed check out Carol Kaye, she sounds fascinating and considering the width of strings on a bass guitar, most bassists are male so I'm interested by her prolific career.
