Beano annuals of times past (er, the early 90's) often had beano-ified traditional poems and old-fashioned songs. Though these vanished later... probably because the kids wouldnt know the tune (i rarely did unless it was something we sang in school assemblies, though i can't imagine that happens much any more)

The Owl and the Pussy Cat actually made me laugh out loud ("Check me bling!"). Brilliant!
Now then, Freddie Fear's Mum. You would, wouldn't you? ;)

quote from Lews blog (also see the 1965 comics post...love it)
Update 11/7/2008: Hunt tells me that he's adapted another Nonsense Poem for a future issue of The Beano: You Are Old, Father William by Lewis Carroll. Having seen the two pager I can report it's another fine job. More info on when it'll appear at a later date.

Jabberwocky is one that must be done...heres hope there will be many more poems done...

If your a Lewis Carrol fan Peter you should try get hold of Bryan Talbots Alice in Sunderland, although its more of a history of the city of Sunderland which highlights the connections that Carrol had with the city, he does a good job of using loads of different styles.

The Beano poems are fantastic
