Valiant was said to run from 6/10/1962 to 16/10/1976 for a total of 730 issues. However that date range is 733 issues. Does anyone know which dates didn't have an issue?

Must have been in the power cuts era of 1974.

Unlike the person who findsthe issue numbers question boring, I think it is really important to comic collectors and fully understand the confusion that is caused by missed issues when only dates are available. The early 1970's saw the whole range of Fleetway comics not being issued for a good few weeks due to industrial action. The first ones that came out after the lapse had dates covering the ommitted period, for example 25 May-25 June 1970. If anyone would like missing issue dates for Lion, Valiant or Smash please let me know. Steve

After the lapse in publication of all Fleetway titles 21/11/70-30/1/71 a TV advertising campaign announced their return to newsagents. Steve

Steve - Yes please can you detail the issues that were missing for Valiant and Lion.

I listed the issues I know about in an earlier post and looking at the Lion section here Al shows us the Lion issue for '213 - 217 March 17 to April 14, 1956'

I bought a full set of Speed comics because I thought I had many issues missing. I later realised that there were 5 weeks where no issue was sold. So now I have 4 issues short of a second set of Speed comics.

2000ad, Battle and Speed all had some weeks where no issues were released in 1980. Does anyone know if Tiger or Roy of the Rovers had a similar problem?

Roy of the Rovers had missing issues in the early 80's. I don't know the exact dates though.

Steve,

Many many thanks for that. I had those marked as gaps in my collection so now I can stop looking for them.

However I have an issue for 02/02/74 and I believe I have issues 15/08/59 and 22/08/59 but I'll have to dig them out and double check.

Also I don't believe there is an issue for 25/04/70, I'll get those out and check them as well.

If you have the same info for Valiant that would be great.

thanks

OK, Rod. Again, this is from the Valiant index, so if it's not right I'm sorry but I'm only quoting the info from there. No Valiant issues on following dates: 21 Nov 70-30 Jan 71, 19 Jan 74, 2-16 Feb 74, 6-27 Jul 74, 31 May-7 Jun 75. Jointly dated issue 6/13 Jun 70. Hope this helps. Steve

Thanks Steve,

This is great data and not something that is easy to work out. I always keep an eye out for those index auctions on ebay but they are very popular and bring a good price.

My list says I have an issue for 6 July 74 but no issue for 3 Aug 74 I'll double check those issues.

Trouble with the Lion issues with the gaps as there doesn't seem to be any editorial explaining the missing week. But you can see that the stories follow on.

The gap from late 1970 must have cost the company a fortune.

cheers
