Hello all and Happy New Year. My name is Steve Horrocks. My recent known work was drawing Minnie the Minx and Captain Handsome. I have a new online Portfolio which is aimed at comics, animation character design for feature and Tv animation and a few other things. I thought some of you might be interested in the comics section as I know there are a lot of Beano and Dandy fans here. There is a quiz in it for you too. The Wikipedia gave the credit for a character that I drew for a year to another artist, a famous artist too! see if you can name the character and its not minnie the minx. There is some ghosting work in there too of some very popular artists.

The stuffs amazing Steve, could look at it all day long! I dont suppose the caveman stuff is for 'A Crood Awakening' by any chance? and the Dragon stuff from 'how to train your dragon'? Thats some of the best Minx artwork I have seen too, apparently shes a difficult one to draw especially after Jim Petrie did such a top job for 2000 strips, although I have yet to see anyone do one I find bad! exceptional stuff

hi Steve
Thanks for your kind words. you know your dreamworks stuff eh? There not official dreamworks designs though.Im actually an animator there not a designer but its and area I'm interested in. Ive just been working on a a new portfolio to show them and also it was for publishers as well to get freelance work.
Glad you liked Minnie she was so much fun to draw. Im a huge fan of hers. jims min was the one I remember fondly as a kid, so much life in his work.

Hi Steve,
I loved your work on Minnie..but I was really impressed by the range of work on show in your website - very impressive. My favourites though, were the Vikings and the Stone-Age Men character sketches - lovely stuff.

Im studying animation at uni, Was looking forward to seeing Aardmans take on the crood awakening but im sure dreamworks wont let everyone down working alone! The stuff from your website is much better than some of the dreamworks pre-production design stuff I have seen from other projects (not that the stuff ive seen is bad) so I cannot see why any production manager or producer wouldn't want you working on their projects, they would be mad not to! keep us all informed for updates please!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments . i'm glad you liked the site.
It was shame that Dreamworks and Ardman didn't work things out. Cavemen Ardman style would have been so funny.

Like everyone else I am very impressed by your work, Steve. Some of it is really outstanding. However, as you talk of putting together a portfolio of your work, which presumably will include lettering, it would be a good idea, in my opinion, if you were to take greater care over your spelling. After all, what you have put on this site is in effect a presentation, a sort of portfolio. Can I gently suggest that you look again at charicature, sketche's, wer'e, wev'e, your (uglier), seperated, style's, wieght, and dont, which I take it are not deliberately misspelt. It's not worth spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth of tar. I wish you well for the successful future that you will surely have.

Apologies for this delayed reply but I've been out all day. I do not, of course, wish to call you a fool, but I stand by everything I said. Please let me clarify. A number of your mistakes are to be found in the Beano Comic Characters cartoon, such as wev'e, wer'e, dont, wieght, style's and seperated. There is nothing wrong with uglier, which is why I put it in brackets. The problem is the preceding word your, which should be you're. There are others. In Exploring caveman silohettes the last word should be silhouettes, center is an Americanism, which in this country is centre, in christmas Carol both words should start with a capital letter in your title, scrooge as a proper noun should also have a capital, Jekyl should be Jekyll. There are more, but really all you are doing wrong is simply not using a dictionary enough and failing to understand the use of the apostrophe. There, I've said my piece. I do hope you can accept my points in the spirit in which they are offered.
