Good point, and there's no need for the Dennis panel either, because he's already shown. And these covers have been released much earlier than usual, another reason why it could easily turn out to be a dummy.

I strongly doubt they will be dummy covers. They will be a load of them stocked up in a warehouse now. When I visited the offices Alan Digby showed me that they have them in the warehouse ages in advance on some sort of rotation system. I'm sure the artists will vouch that the artwork in them was done quite a while ago! I visited in July 2008 and the 2009 annuals were around the office I had a good sneak through them ha ha!

I cannot see who has done the Dandy cover again, but I take it that its Nigel Parkinson? Funny how I got the same thing mistaken last year! Goes to show how good he is a ghosting I suppose!

Yes but Amazon don't scan in those covers, or they wouldn't have covers to books that get postponed. Presumably they're supplied by publishers, such as the Century 21 Annual 2010 cover for a book that was canceled (then tweaked for the 2011 version).

It's just the Heroes book I thought might not be the final cover as the strapline is at odds with the cover images.

Not a massive fan of the Beano cover. Don't get me wrong its lovely and well drawn but I preferred the David Parkins stuff, The Loch Ness monster cover was fantastic. I also hope that there is a 'after' picture on the back cover

There's still no listing for a Bash Street Kids book on either amazon or waterstones, so I wonder if that means that there isn't one this year (first year since 1988 that there hasn't been one).

I hope not, but I've been thinking the same thing. :(

The Dandy annual cover is excellent, well done NP.

Not so keen on the Beano annual though - I think they've made the same mistake as last year's annual, in putting sound effects on the cover. The real problem in my opinion is that the revamp of Dennis for the TV series has kind of separated him from the other Beano characters so the characters from the rest of the comic look a bit odd compared to Dennis, and I agree that there's too much empty space, especially compared to the Dandy cover which has a clever use of perspective.

I agree also with Steve Henderson about David Parkins' covers - they were really good, as was DS. The one Steve mentioned was the 2004 annual cover if anyone's interested.

Having said that, I'm not complaining too much - Billy Whizz is on the cover for once - something that hardly ever seems to happen. His cover appearances aren't that irregular, but he's not on the cover very often for a character that's been around since the 1960s and other, less iconic characters have been seen on annual covers when he's nowhere to be seen.

I've found the Beano and Dandy annuals 2011 in WHSmiths!!

Also the Heroes 80's book which I bought straight away...which does have that misleading cover..with Leo, Davy Law and Ken Reid art on the cover though it is ripped by an 80's Dennis!! Also hate seeing the Dandy logo small..
It has a slipcase again

All the annauls are now wider!!

spoiler review of Beano and Dandy Heroes..
with the Heroes book was a bit disappointed..as it focussed on a few main characters not the obscure..no original art:(...also being a collector I have most of what they are covering already..and only two pages on Calamity James!!..and no adventure stories..or light adventure stories..like Brassneck type..
Still there are some nice annual pages..liked seeing the real Ivy photo..and nice 80's pop stars personalities in the stories..it is very nostalgic for me..so will be a nice reread!! liked seeing Cuddles and Dimples with John Craven!!

Is it misleading though? Is the intent not the "80's" Dennis symbolically ripping through/out of the older strips, signifying a more modern era breaking through from the usual focus of the books. Or am I just overanalysing things lol.

That's early. They're supposed to be released on 16 August 2010 (so says Amazon). Strange, the WHS website still lacks the covers, even though Amazon had them ages ago.

So we can now confirm the demise of the Bash Street Kids annual can we?

Turns out that there's another Bunty classics book.

The cover at Amazon is not the final design, which actually has the proper logo on it.

Interestingly, the Dandy annual advertises the Dandy comic, not Dandy Xtreme.

The Dennis book is back to 96 pages from last year's low of 80. I think every single page apart from the covers is drawn by Tom Paterson, and it is 100% original content.
