FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
6-3 on aggregate. Congratulations to them. I bet a lot of people thought they'd blown it when they lost the first leg.
Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
A satisfactory night's work, steelclaw, so well done, but don't lose sight of your benchmark for excellence. A semi-final place has to be your minimum aim. These lads had your cockerel crowing, and justifiably so.

Hmmm. Semi-finals might be a bit premature. Let's wait and see the draw first. What's the chances they get a group with Martin Jol's Ajax?
Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
The draw is actually irrelevant as far as my point is concerned. The reason the semi-final has to be the minimum aim for this Tottenham team is that that's where the great 1961 double side got to in the 61/62 European Cup before being eliminated 4-3 on aggregate by Benfica (with Eusebio), who then went on to win the trophy in Amsterdam 5-3 against Real Madrid, despite Ferenc Puskas getting a hat trick against them. No mean feat that. The current Spurs outfit have to remember that there are many far better sides out there than Young Boys but, if they are to be compared favourably with the 61/62 team, they have to get to the semi-final regardless of who they are drawn against, and preferably then the final. I have nothing against Spurs and I wish them well, although I do enjoy winding steelclaw up. I just don't think they are good enough overall. Time will tell.dreamticket wrote:Semi-finals might be a bit premature. Let's wait and see the draw first.

Spurs have been drawn in the same group as the holders.
Inter Milan typical. Phoenix Semi Final I don't think so, Final Yes
Tottenham Hotspur
Werder Bremen
FC Twente
Inter Milan
It is eight years since an English side reached the Champions League group stage that wasn't one of the 'Big Four' Man U/A******/Liverpool/Chelsea - that was Newcastle in 2002/03.
Well done Spurs.

I think they should win against at least two of those 3 other teams in their group then

How did you come to that conclusion?Da Gamer wrote:I think they should win against at least two of those 3 other teams in their group then
Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
I was thinking the same thing actually, they can beat Werder Bremen and FC Twente, but will struggle against Inter Milan. If that's how it happens, they'll probably be second place in the group.

Chriss - Errrrrr Inverness 0 -1 Accies (and an ex Inverness player scoring a korker of a gaol in 45 seconds as well) I bet the Dundee Utd game is a faded memory now lol
(yeah we were a bit lucky I admit but we were the better team - think you shoulda had a penalty though)

Accies always beat us. Billy Reid is very good at the anti-football game, so once Imrie scored, it was always going to be a battle to get back. We also had McCann, Tokely and Proctor playing with injuries, whilst Innes was a surprise selection on the bench, although not played.
Unfortunately, I'd rather beat Hamilton than Dundee U. It's more a six-pointer beating your relegation rivals, than taking a few points off those at the other end of the table. We desperately need a player or two with Foran now out for another month.
Quite impressed with what Mixu's doing at Killie. If he gets Velicka, it could be an amazing battle at the bottom. I don't understand why Velicka has such a hard time getting a game when fit. His record, even for Rangers, is excellent. Mind you, Walter likes players who just run around all day, rather than the ones who can score.

I'm not so worried about Milan as they've got off to a dodgy start under Rafa.Digifiend wrote:I was thinking the same thing actually, they can beat Werder Bremen and FC Twente, but will struggle against Inter Milan. If that's how it happens, they'll probably be second place in the group.
Mind you, if we can't beat Wigan...

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
Just got in and heard Danny Kelly (big Spurs fan) on Talksport saying something about Harry losing his temper with a Sky Sports reporter. No idea what happened but i'll look for it on youtube.
Millwall - played six won five (in all competitions) nay bad. Just happy for them to stay up really. I might have a bob or two on them winning the League cup. Home to Ipswich in the next round - can send the kids out for that one.

Everyone happy with Defoe's hat-trick last night?
Hats off to N.I. for winning away in Slovenia, and to Belarus for beating France in Paris (there's always someone worse off than yourself)!
Result of the night goes to Cyprus for holding Portugal 4-4 in Lisbon, with an 89th minute equaliser.

Can't complain about a 4-0 win.
