I hadn't even tasted alcohol at that time of my life, steelclaw. I was only a schoolboy back then, and a young one at that. I got the autograph in the time-honoured manner - by standing outside the players' entrance. It was never particularly difficult to get the home team wherever I went, Bolton, Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool were my main grounds because they were the destinations for Ireland's Coach Company of Lancaster, but I remember that quite a few opposition players from various teams were a bit sniffy, not usually the big names though, oddly enough. The only time I stood on the turf at Burnden Park was when the club had an open day in about 1990. The only time I ever ran on to any First Division playing surface was at Deepdale on April 23rd 1955 to escort my all-time favourite player, Joe Marston, from the pitch after his final game for North End before returning definitively to Australia. My interest in him had started when I discovered that he had been signed from the team I had chosen years earlier as my favourite to follow out of the many fascinatingly-named teams on the Summer Pools coupons - Leichhardt-Annandale in the New South Wales Inter-City league. My brother and several friends all chose different teams, which led to much good-natured rivalry. My fascination with Joe once led me to enter a painting competition run by the Lancashire Evening Post. I certainly didn't want to win because it was the runners-up who would get a glossy photograph of a Preston player. As that week it was to be Tommy Docherty, I included a letter with my painting asking for a photo of Joe rather than Tommy if my painting was considered good enough for one of the runners-up prizes. Oh the naivety of youth, of course I got the photo I wanted, and I've still got it. Joe and I did actually correspond on a couple of occasions. I've still got those letters as well. The similarity in our surnames is purely coincidental.steelclaw wrote:Nice autograph of Nat did you run on the pitch to get it?

I've got Glen Hoddles autograph but I didn't ask him my mum sent a letter to spurs asking to send it for my birthday.
Apart from Crawley I've never run on a league pitch.
Crawley have moved to a fairly new stadium from one I used to climb over the fence and get in free.

I can't remember, but whatever it was, I did make an effort and put some time in on it. I've long since given up trying to create artwork as I am simply not very good at it but, on the other hand, I really appreciate other people's skill with pencil and/or paint. However, especially where comics and story papers are concerned, the content has to engage me as well.steelclaw wrote:What did you paint a picture of?

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
When did you add that 2-1 even
, steelclaw? After the match? At least it was an even, pulsating game, according to Chris Kamara on Sky Sports News Soccer Saturday and Alan Gowling on Radio Manchester. I've not been able to get into this forum for several hours. That CGI certainly deserves a red card!!
Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
Not that Fast CGI error again. Forum's going slow for me right now, so the problem isn't completely fixed yet.
Two points dropped for the Gunners. Newcastle were 4-0 down, then managed to equalise. Abou Diaby was the villain - he got sent off, and the Toon must've had a much easier time playing against 10 men.
Good win for Hull City today. 5-1 against Scunthorpe.

On talksport they said Spurs' second penalty was ordered to be retaken because of infringement in the area - apparently Crouch was only a yard behind the penalty taker when he kicked the ball. Why do players all run into the area? They're mad.

I didn't mention it in my previous post by the way because it was 1-1 at the time (about half an hour into the match).

Great win for Liverpool today. Who needs Fernando Torres?
This win was special - we hardly ever win at Stamford Bridge, our away form this season has generally been awful and then you have the Torres factor. Dalglish is giving us hope again. It was an excellent team performance, but Meireles and Carragher stood out, as Carragher put in a strong performance on his return from injury and Meireles scored another good goal.

Torres was poor. Got hauled off at 66 minutes. Guess he didn't fancy it against his old team.

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
According to yesterday's Daily Mail Mike Parry (who has just resigned from Talksport) is to present 606 on Saturday with Robbie Savage. I quite like Mike Parry but I can'r see him fitting in at the BBC. I hated the way he was bullied by co-presenter Mike Graham on their Talksport show. Also Richard Keys and Andy Gray start their new Talksport show tomorrow (Monday) and fellow Talksport presenter had already made known - on air last week - of his dislike for Richard Keys. And, apparently, Alan Brazil does not get on with Andy Gray so it will be interesting to hear the handover tomorrow morning.

Re: FOOTBALL SEASON 2010/11
There was a funny incident on 606 at the start of this season, where one disgruntled caller came on and asked the presenters (Mark Chapman and Robbie Savage) why Alan Green wasn't presenting the show, before openly telling them that he thought Green should be hosting it, before labelling them a pair of clowns. He then went straight for Savage and said about he represents everything that's wrong with football today!
Does anyone else remember that happening? It was hilarious, because there simply wasn't a lot the presenters could say, and I don't think the man on the phone even mentioned how his team did - he just went on tell Chapman and Savage that he thought they were rubbish.

Did anyone see Wayne Rooney's goal on MOTD yesterday? That bicycle kick was fantastic! They needed it too, after Man City got a flukey equaliser earlier in the match after the ball rebounded off an oblivious player's backside!
