It scanned ok in the shops I bought copies from. Sounds like a problem with the supermarket.Digifiend wrote:That would be due to the recent price increase (which meant that the barcode changed), I've had the same problem.

Re: This weeks Dandy
Also happened to me past two weeks. Concerned how that will affect the recording of sales figures? Hopefully not at all.
On a related note, WHSmith in Liverpool Street Station has stopped stocking The Dandy - they sold it for about the last 6 months (first time since the October 2010 relaunch) and they were definitely shifting 4-5 of the 6 copies they ordered.
As its becoming harder and harder for me to find a copy, I have subscribed using the 15 issues for £15 option on their website. I always try to buy my comics in a newsagent wherever I can as I want to support them actually being on the shelves.
My first sub issue comes in January, so just leaves me to search out the Christmas issue later this week. I'm already 'nostalgic' for last year's Christmas Dandy - what a beautiful thing it was!!

I bought mine from 'Asda' by the way...
Re: This weeks Dandy
Well, don't get too excited, my subs copy arrived today and it's not a patch on last years sumptuous festive feast. Oddly, Cuddles and Dimples are back!Spencer wrote: My first sub issue comes in January, so just leaves me to search out the Christmas issue later this week. Still, the little badge and magent are cool, and I quite like the mobile phone dangly thing, but £3.99???, Glad I subscribe.

Reprint or new? Either way, looks like Cuddles and Dimples might be the replacement for Harry Hill (the Christmas issue is his last appearance, which makes the return of the toddlers not so strange, as their own removal from the comic as part of the revamp was partly because Nigel was doing Harry Hill).

Re: This weeks Dandy
Cuddles and Dimples returning would make sense, given that they were last drawn by Nigel, although something tells me that it won't be that simple. I'm sure Nigel will let us know if we're wrong!
That probably wouldn't fully the answer the question about Harry's replacement though - I doubt they'd be returning as the comic's main characters. However, I think it's unlikely that he will be replaced by another celebrity strip, as reading Nigel's blog it is apparent that the idea to have Harry Hill in the Dandy came a long time before his strip actually appeared - it predated the decision to reavmp the comic, which was itself a few months before the actual first post-revamp issue.

Re: This weeks Dandy
Looks like a reprint of C&D, Digi, although I am no expert on this. Reading through the comic, it is very festive, it just hasn't got the same quality feel as last year, but that is probably down to the paper quality. Last year the cover was almost cardboard!
Although not as good as last year, it is still a cracking festive read and miles better than XTreme!

Re: This weeks Dandy
That did look very like a reprinted C&D to me, and I think I even recognised the script, but I couldn't guarantee anything since I didn't buy the Dandy before 2010. Even if it is a reprint, it's still an interesting development, as it's the first non-Jamie Smart strip from before 2010 to be resurrected, and the first relatively old one full stop (Harry and his Hippo* aside).
The uDraw page hurt both my eyes and my brain simultaneously, and there's not much in the modern Dandy which can do that these days. Not only was it brutally squished to get those adverts in the top and bottom, but apparently nobody in the Dandy office has ever watched South Park! They didn't print the original drawing (unusually), but I bet that's exactly what it was - just a traditionally distorted and indistinct picture of Butters sent in by a particularly unimaginative or point-missing child. Even the costume design was eerily similar!
Those two points aside, the comic was excellent, and the strips on top form (particularly My Freaky Family and Mr Meecher). I ought to write a lot more, but I haven't the time right now.
* Come to think of it, where on earth is Harry and his Hippo?

Help! Help! We're being held prisoner in a signature factory!
Re: This weeks Dandy
Just thought of something. Dandy.com will be needing a new look. All the Harry Hill stuff has to go, since he'll be gone from the comic.
Re: This weeks Dandy
Hehe...it was Butters as Professor Chaos! Didn't NP or anyone at The Dandy notice...or is this just a strange joke???swirlythingy wrote:...but apparently nobody in the Dandy office has ever watched South Park!
And that was never worth £3.99 to me. My kids don't touch the tat and they've read the ten or so pages of recent reprints before. Still, Nuke Noodle, Rocky's Horror Show and My Freaky Family continue to impress...

Bah, my local Asda didn't have The Dandy today. Hopefully it's just a blip, but they DID have The Beano and the tills haven't recognised the Dandy barcode since the price rise. Might be time to subscribe...
