on today's episode of Pointless (which might still be on at the time of writing) there was a question on what Dandy characters could you name.

Could the obscured comic be Robin? They have Girl, Eagle and Swift so it would complete the stable.

Could well be, I don't really know what Robin looked like. Apart from the image on this site, it's hard to track down another image of the comic... when searching for 'Robin Comic' or even 'Robin British Comic' most of the results point to Bruce Wayne's young chum or that bloke and his mates in Sherwood Forest.

Thanks, Digi. That would seem to confirm Steve's suggestion that the mystery comic from Please Turn Over is a Robin. The main clue is the fact that the comic's title is contained in a panel that drops below the bottom of the first row of drawings. Also the position of the pic of the robin and the price seem to match up.

Watch it on BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... ramme-info
(skip to 14:30)
The answers were given at the start, and there's a wrong answer among them... here's the scores. Surprising, or as you'd expect?

Hungry Horace - POINTLESS
Korky the Cat - 23
Brassneck - 1
Beryl the Peril - 1 (most people probably only think of her as a Topper character)
Desperate Dan - 64
Gypsy Rose Lee - WRONG
Marvo the Wonder Chicken - POINTLESS

I see they didn't survey any Dandy Xtreme readers.

Further to my replies in the Bob Holness thread I have found a utility disc from my old laptop that allows me to play dvds and capture images so here are some from Hue and Cry. The first is one of the illustrations from The Trump paper. Also Alastair Sim the author of the stories in the Trump.

And here's Harry Fowler - who is the star of the film - reading the Trump.

Thanks for posting those images, Steve. Hue and Cry is a great film, isn't it? The first time I saw it (on TV) I was quite shocked at the way the Jack Warner character is killed - at least I think he was killed, I haven't seen the film for a long time. I remember when these great old b&w British films used to be shown on TV regularly. I May have to invest in a copy of the DVD - I've also been thinking about buying the Alastair Sim box set.

Just for any readers who aren't sure, in the screen caps above, the great Alastair Sim is the gent wearing the scarf, and not the vicar/priest/choirmaster, holding The Trump as if it's something out of the sewer (great acting!), in pic 2.

btw to avoid confusion we probably need to say that The Trump was a fictional story paper.

I was wondering why The Trump didn't appear in Comic UK's gallery.

I don't think jack Warner dies - Harry Fowler jumps on his stomach and winds him. Sorry I just assumed everyone knew who Alastair Sim was. I did suggest that the Trump was a made up title for the film in the Bob Holness thread (I think) saying the masthead may have been edited from the Triumph. I grew up in the 60s so the film doesn't look like my childhood (clothes wise anyway) but we did still dress in hand me downs and holey jumpers. When it was cold we wore socks on our hands as our parents couldn't afford gloves for us. Summer holiday was a week in a caravan in Clacton-On-Sea. The films finale is glorious as one of the kids works at the bbc and manages to issue a newsflash for all boys in London to converge on Ballard's Wharf to fight the villains. Lovely shot of hundreds of kids running over London Bridge.

I just found this piece torn from an old TV Times among my comics - I don't remember this series but the fact I tore it out means I probably recorded it on VHS. There is no clue to the date but I would presume late 80s early 90s. Does anyone have more info?

I am working my way through my hundreds of VHS tapes so will eventually come across it one day.

I just googled it and found one episode on youtube covering the years 1975-1985. Broadcast in 1990 so my guess couldn't have been more right!
