Longest running Beano reader & the one with the most issues?

Discuss or comment on anything relating to D.C.Thomson's second longest running comic. The home of Dennis the Menace. Has been running since 1938.

Luckily nobody cares about boys' own adventures so annuals of those from pretty much the whole second half of the twentieth century are rarely into double figures!

If you have big runs of comics that are all in good nick it might be worth considering getting them bound (if you can find a book binder that is, they're a bit thin on the ground these days and it'll only get worse). Binding will 'reduce the value' of the individual comics, say people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. You can then store them on shelves and they will require much less care to keep in good condition. One of these days I'll be getting my great big stack of Roy of the Rovers into nice grass-coloured bindings!

I didn't want to start a new thread so I#ll put this small article from yesterday's Times here. Does anybody know Phil Shrimpton? Is he our own Phil?

Phil's the nice guy that runs the fab website selling all those glorious British comics we like (most of the sales seem to be through eBay). The site also includes a nice 'search' engine to access the various comics he's sold over the years, along with pics for a lot of the sales, which is nice to trawl through for a while. Also has various other interesting newsletters about comics which I assume are still on there.

And that must be one amazingly large collection of comics!.... (Enough to build a Dandy and Beano house were they all to be tied up into comic bundles and made into comic bricks. Your very own house you could read!)

I've bought a few things off him over the years - mostly involving Ken Reid's work.

That would be the Beano and Dandy Collectors Club newsletters, and yes they are still there.
