Football Picture Monthly

Some of you may have noticed that I have requested various pieces of information recently regarding specific titles, but the real enigma is not (unsurprisingly) even listed as a category.

Maybe it's the search engines i am using but I can find only very little information regarding the Football Picture Monthly comic libraries from the 1980's.

these were perfect for me as I have always been interested in football and comics. Even to this day, I enjoy reading these pocket-sized graphic novellas and they can be picked up cheaply on Ebay.

One favourite in particular was a very early story called 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'. For a long time now this story has proved to be the inspiration for a project i am working on in my spare time. maybe one day I might even get a draft done.

Anyway... does anyone know how long these monthlies carried on for?

Details including publication dates for the first and final issues and number/date of the final publication would be gratefully appreciated.

The latest ones that I picked up were dated 2000/2001. Have almost the full run of the first 100 and they were smoothly crafted tales in the mould of Commando. For any more gen, the best email would be hitting the general enquiries email at DCT.

The Good, The Bad And The Ugly was and still is one of my favourites that I will happily pick it up and re-read that issue time and time again. The final panel in that story always makes me chuckle.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

The last issue of Football Picture Monthly was I think 412 from 2003 as I think I remember picking this up after it was announced as the last issue in Comics International. There is a slim chance the last issue might have actually have been 413.

Me neither. How wonderful!

Thanks again for all your help guys. I love this forum!

You're right, ColCool007 - the final panel is indeed a real gem, a fitting end to a first class story.

Another favourite has to be "The Challenge" (No. 10). Full marks to the script writer for a stunningly accurate depiction of the state of football in the year 2000. Bearing in mind, of course, that this comic was produced in 1986.

I had no idea that these books were being produced until fairly recently

The last issue of Football Picture Story Monthly was indeed No 418. It featured a strip drawn by Tony O'Donnell titled 'A Century of Football'.

Hi,

I have searched all over the Net for potential comic dealers which deals with Football Picture Story Monthly.

I need 109 to complete my collection of 418.

I hope anyone who would recommend me some dealers to start off.

Thanks!

I now only need 21 to complete... (from no.377 onwards), it is difficult to find such dealers, mostly I sat my bum on the chair staring at eBay screen from time to time.

Anyway, one question - what font is being used for the heading on every Football comic? I was thinking to create a website devoted to FPSM and would like to know the font to start me off.
