Re: currently on at the 'pictures':
I just saw Iron Man 3 (or 'Iron Man Three' as they curiously call it) tonight so I've avoided reading posts about it until now.
Spoiler free:
I thoroughly enjoyed it! Some nice character development and interesting twists and turns. All the performances were top notch and although we were bombarded by sfx a tad too much they looked impressive. Some real laugh-out-loud moments too, and a script that was more sophisticated than the usual action movie fare.
The story deviates from the comics as all Marvel movies do. (I don't mind. The movieverse is a separate Marvel universe.) One long-term Marvel character is considerably different from his original comic version but... the twist really worked in my opinion.
Is the post-credit scene worth waiting for? Well, it's funny, so an extra laugh is always worthwhile in this world I think.

Glad you liked it Lew----Stan Lees' cameo was alright in this one!
Re: currently on at the 'pictures':
Can't wait to see who that Marvel character is that's so different. (no spoilers please)

Gaaaaaaaaah! Spoilers! I saw the post-credits scene with no idea what it was going to be, so it was a very nice surprise (and works well in context of the film too).Digifiend wrote:From what I hear, that post credits scene is just a cameo from...
I agree with Lew - I thought it was a fine romp in the merry Marvel movieverse tradition! Much better than the disjointed Iron Man 2, and a fitting end to the trilogy... or IS it?
Re: currently on at the 'pictures':
Thought it was the best of the Golden Avenger films. Lots of twists, turns and intrigue. Ben Kingsley was tremendous, as was Downey jnr. as usual.
For a minute, I thought we were going to get Phineas Horton in there. Y'know, recreating an experiment and all.
Good fun. Let's hope for more. Shame my favourite character of Ghost Rider is in shockingly bad non-Marvel movies.

Good news! Apparently the rights for Ghost Rider (and Blade, and Daredevil) have now reverted to Marvel Studios. I expect they'll wait a while before risking a Ghost Rider reboot, though.starscape wrote:Shame my favourite character of Ghost Rider is in shockingly bad non-Marvel movies.

Re: currently on at the 'pictures':
Just been to my new local cinema and had a SF treat in watching Star Trek. I was really impressed with the movie. It was paced well, had some good dialogue and the cinematography was truly awesome as was the effects. But for me, the best performance was Simon Pegg as Scotty. Truly an eye opener as I never knew he had it in him! 4.5/5 from me.
I could say more but don't want to spoil it for anyone going to watch it. And Benedict Cumberbatch is a pretty decent villain.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS ****
official trailer here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diP-o_JxysA
Colin the Cool One beat me to the punch, and I agree with his sentiments on this one.
I am no 'trekkie/trekker' and I find the worst pseudo-moralizing put forth by the franchise in general pretty off-putting, however the previous entry was cracking piece of cinema even for non-fans, and the same winning cast [in the main] have reassembled for further dimensional travel.
Not quite up to the 'firing-on-all-cylinder' previous outing, nevertheless this piece is a worthwhile entry , and the 'darkness' in the title is reflected throughout: a slightly sinister and threatening ambience runs through the centre like a stick of Vulcan rock. Some excellent views of life in 23rd Century Earth [London and San Francisco, with gleaming spires, hyper-fast elevator travel and anti-grav craft casually gliding past familiar settings.]
This being STAR TREK, much of the action is set off-Earth, and the villian is a nasty fascisto-type, out to obliterate any species he deems inferior. A very good sequence involving 'astronauts' gliding through space as they approach a target craft. The ENTERPRIZE is superbly-realized, three Centuries away from the 60s TV limitations, with onscreen carnage and destruction that is easily on par with anything by Cameron or Lucas: especially in the last reel, which also involves a thrilling, fluidly-filmed punch-up aboard some unidentified anti-grav craft, over a towering futur-scape.
Overall great stuff, if slightly less cohesive than the last film. Very brief cameo from Leonard Nimoy and possibly a 'tribble'.
This is fine, and happily no 'into Dorkness' as I feared.
Also 4/5, I'll be back for a second sitting on this one.

That was no cameo. That WAS a tribble.ISPYSHHHGUY wrote:Overall great stuff, if slightly less cohesive than the last film. Very brief cameo from Leonard Nimoy and possibly a 'tribble'.
But you are right Rab, as a film, it's good, but for fans of the franchise, it is impressive and to my mind, a better reboot than the previous outing. Did you notice the cameo from Noel Clarke (Doctor Who's Mickey)?

I'm afraid I don't see Doctor Who, Col, although I have a mate who asks to watch it on BBC-iplayer when he visits my house---I usually have a quick 40 winks when it's on!colcool007 wrote:That was no cameo. I do remember seeing an episode of STAR TREK--the Next Generation [I think!] where 80s or 90s footage was seamlessly incorporated with film from the 60s 'Tribble' episode---very well done, I thought!

That was an episode of Deep Space 9 and was the 30th anniversary episode. It is from 1996 and was titled Trials and Tribble-ations.ISPYSHHHGUY wrote:I'm afraid I don't see Doctor Who, Col, although I have a mate who asks to watch it on BBC-iplayer when he visits my house---I usually have a quick 40 winks when it's on!colcool007 wrote:That was no cameo. Not that I have ever watched any form of Star Trek....
