Re: What comics did you buy today?
Today, I got the book that will be travelling with me to Dundee. I eventually picked up the Commando: 50 Years coffee table monster. It is huge and has lots of pretty pictures. I am going to enjoy this one.
I started to say something sensible but my parents took over my brain!

Re: What comics did you buy today?
The latest 4 Commando's, the golden one has a great cover!
What appears to be the 1939 Chatterbox Annual. It's the same thickness as the slightly older ones (which were a compilation of the weekly / monthly Chatterbox story paper), but is nothing but stories, in the style of the later ones (from the 40's and 50's, after the demise of the weekly and monthly, which were just ordinary story annuals cashing in on the name).
And a book of Shunga, coinciding with a current exhibition in the British Museum (and a smaller one in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge). Shunga were pornographic prints from Japan, produced from around 1600-1900, some of them came in book form where the pictures told a story, both with captions and 'clouds of words' next to character's faces. The Fitzwilliam exhibition translates some of this text and it, along with the outlandish "positions", is remarkably similar to some of the sillier Tijuana Bibles of 30-40 years later (and the far side of the world XD).

The 1976 Tammy fireworks issue, a classic of fireworks issues!!
Re: What comics did you buy today?
As well as my regular Marvel UK, I bought War Picture Library Annual 1978. A softback annual. Never seen this one before.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Went to the Bloomsbury mart yesterday. Picked up eight DC Thomson Christmas issues of Boy's papers for £5 each:
Wizard 1092 22.12.1945 and 1119 21.12.1946
Adventure 1148 15.12.1945
Rover 1125 22.12.1945 and 1152 21.12.1946
Hotspur 531 15.12.1945, 559 21.12.1946 and 1049 15.12.1956 (my first christmas aged exactly ten months!) Wonder what I got?
Plus some seventies Tigers and three Essentials collections.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Steve - I was there too. Lots of Lions, Valiants, Smashs plus 1940s Beanos and original art. The Keyhole Kates looked tempting as did the Ken Reid volumes including a complete Jonah volume (£100 though!). I picked up a reference book on Davy Law and other top creators from yesteryear. Half tempted to have a stall there myself in the future...

Re: What comics did you buy today?
Next one is only two weeks away and I saw some nice Charlton ghost comics but don't have a checklist so didn't buy any but I'll do one before the next mart and pick up any I don't have. There was a wee Scotsman there but not sure if it was Colcool.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
It's been a while since I posted what I have bought recently.
This evening, I bought two copies of Wow (Nos. 20 and 22)

Can't speak for Colin but I think the wee Scotsman might have been my pal Wee John. I'll find out when I phone him tonight.
I was in Leeds last week and found back issues of Spaceship Away in OK Comics. What a great comic shop. I missed S.A. when it came out and was chuffed to find them. An excellent comic and I am thoroughly enjoying reading them.

Re: What comics did you buy today?
New beano & dandy 2014 annuals along with the new viz reprint book,i don't know whether to call that an annual or not
plus the last 3 beano weeklies.
Re: What comics did you buy today?
This morning I bought, paid for to be accurate as the book isn't available until November 4th, The Dandy and The Beano - Classic Christmas Comic Covers 1937-1969, a hardback with dustwrapper published by phil-comics under licence from Thomsons at £20 plus p&p, slightly cheaper the more copies you buy. All Christmas covers are there. This is his first book, and he has had just 1000 printed, so don't hang about.

Yep, we refer to it as the annual so you're ok to call it that.big bad bri wrote:New beano & dandy 2014 annuals along with the new viz reprint book,i don't know whether to call that an annual or not
