The archives of the Daily Mirror are now online to read and download as PDFs. Every page from 1903-2000. (Although there do seem to be some missing.) This is a fantastic boon to historians, and for comic fans too! Garth, Jane, Perishers, Fosdyke Saga, Andy Capp, - all there for our perusal.
Reproduction isn't high resolution, so linework can be a bit pixelated but the strips are still legible. Obviously the site is designed as a reference tool for historians rather than comic fans but it's still great to access this material.
There is a fee, starting at £5 for 48 hours, but that's very reasonable I think.

A fantastic find Lew,I love Andy Capp but the site is worth it just for those wonderful comic adverts alone..It would unheard of today for a comic to be advertised in a red top.
Obviously mums and dads reading the paper back then would have either shown the advert to their kids or just go out and buy the comic for them.It was a different way of life....those were the days

So in the same week United Features goes completely free to view - 60 years of Peanuts alone surely enough to merit taking a look - The Mirror offers pay to view of its pages...Lew Stringer wrote:The archives of the Daily Mirror are now online to read and download as PDFs. Good to see it's keeping up with the times. (Not The Times, obviously...)
That's a very good overview of what's available though, Lew.

Re: Daily Mirror archive online! Garth, Jane, Andy Capp, the lot
I've found the way you can search the papers consecutively. If you go to advanced search, don't bother with the top search bar. Just put in the dates you want to search (eg: 01/01/1966 to 01/03/1966) and tick the dates only box, then search, the papers will come up in order. You still have to go through them to find the strips but at least they're consecutive that way.
If anyone wants to read the first Garth serial, episode one is missing, but start from 26/07/1943 and you can follow them in order from episode 2.

'MIRROR. Saturday,.'.Nov'9:, 1926'
THE FIFTH" NEARLY HERE!
Daily Mirror Offle«-
DEAR BOYS AND Girls , -
It's no good trying to talk about any.
t h i n g else; I'm sure there's only one topic
t h a t will interest you at the present time—
fireworlis, Yes, most of yoil, I am sure,
are not only thintiing about fireworks, but
collecting , fireworks, " sivoppmg " fireworks,
di-eaming fireworks. (If you are a boy and
you haven't the fireworks craze a t the present
moment there must be something Wrong with
you and it is advisable t o see a doctor at
once!) yes, t h e coming Fifth of November—
on Tuesday next—is easily one of the most delightful
days of the year' and I hope you are
Storing up a goodly supply of squibs, crackers,
rockets, etc., e t c . , to celebrate the event.
I suppose, now, you have a box —possibly an
old cirar-box or a hat-box—which is, guarded
as carefully as t h e Crown Jewels in the Tower,
For weeks
t h e collection has been steadily growing
bigger and bigger» until it has reached its
present splendid dimensions.
What have you in the box ? Let me give
a guess. Those neat, round, fascinating little
bundles of yellow-coloured fireworks in the
corner. Golden rain? 1 thought so. And
those fat, rather stubby ones. Roman
candies? 1, suppose red or green fire is
contained in those big wooden " pill-boxes ?
What can that huge red-and-green firework
be but a Jack-in-the-Box?
Half the fun on Guy Fawkes's Day i s collecting
fireworks, comparing your s t o r e with those
of your friends, " getting father or
indulgent uncles for more additions t o , t h e magical
box.
Fireworks, alas only t a k e a short time to
let off. They soon disappea'' in clouds of
coloured sparks and fire, and only t h e charred,
blackened cases a r e left behind.
isn't this fun to read.........a different world.........this is on the Pip, Squeak and Wilfred page
