Isle of man TT 2011

Post by Young Freddy »

Anybody here interested in the isle of man TT? If you're interested in motorbikes, this is good for you! Its already about halfway through this year, but daily you'll find the road races on ITV4 at 9:00pm.
The isle of man TT is a course that travels around the roads of the isle of man, making just one lap cover 37.75 miles. All the races are either motorbikes or Sidecar racing, and i find all of them thrilling! Sadly one of the Motorbike racers Crashed and died in the first supersport race, but the race is highly dangerous, as the riders exceed speeds of 180mph in tight and windy roads around the streets of the IoM.

So, if anyone is interested, who do you think is going to win the races? And who is your favourite racer? If you are unfamiliar with the series, you may've seen one of the more famous racers called 'Guy Martin' on his BBC2 program earlier this year named 'The boat that Guy built'. I find him thoroughly amusing and very funny, and i hope he wins his first TT this year! I think he's good enough, but he's had very bad luck in the past few years. :D

I remember back in the 1960s when the BBC showed scrambling on Saturday afternoons on Grandstand. It involved motorbikes racing over muddy terrain. Re TT It always amazes me how the bikes are almost horizontal when they go round bends.

Just checked youtube and, under Vintage Scrambes - Grandstand, found a great race featuring the name I remember from 40 odd years ago - Jeff Smith. Commentary by Murry Walker. I love the way the bikes take off as the go over the hills. Like Steve McQueen in the Great Escape.

Funny, I just went to see the documentary film SENNA, about a Brazilian motor-car racer. I'd never heard of him, but he was World Champ 3 times I think. A good film, but with a tragic ending.
