Looking back through some old posts I see stevezodiac has posted a number of pink flyers on the forum a few years back. Here are the links:

Re: Advertising Posters
Comics advertised on sandwich boards were a common sight in old strips, like this 1934 'Weary Willie and Tired Tim' storyline by Percy Cocking:

Whether or not they were common in real life I couldn't say as I wasn't around then.

Thanks for sharing that cover! I couldn't imagine sandwich boards were used very often because they would only be seen in one town by a limited number of people so who knows? And they did hand out those four page flyers at schools so maybe they had the boards as well?
I've also just come across another poster on ebay. This is for the Hornet:
If you're interested in buying this it is the original poster and is up with an asking price of £9.99.

I've also just remembered about this, a Film Fun tin sign from the 1950's.

Here is a advertising poster for Playhour from the 50s that I won for 99p on ebay in December.
